Omega XL says that its supplement has the ability to heal damaged connective tissue throughout the body. Which is supposed to ease pain and reduce inflammation.
Can Omega XL really live up to all the hype?
What is Omega XL?
Omega XL is a dietary supplement that is a complex of 30 fatty acids. Which is supposed to decrease inflammation. If you reduce inflammation you can relieve areas of the body that has inflammation thus relieving pain all over the body.
Some of the fatty acids that are included are DHA and EPA which make up the majority of those fatty acids. This special formulation of fatty acids is said to have over 30 years of clinical research. This includes over 30 different studies that have been conducted to prove its effectiveness as a natural pain reliever.
The main selling point of Omega XL is that its gel capsule of fish oil is significantly smaller than other fish oil capsules that are on the market. According to their website, the source of their fish oil (New Zealand green-lipped mussel) is far superior to other brands of fish oil. In addition, they claim that their formulation contains up to 22x more omega-3 free fatty acids than regular fish oil.
How Does Omega XL Work?
It is said to contain very high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. Great HealthWorks, the manufacturer also says that it utilizes a patented amount of more than 30 known fatty acids.
Omega XL’s patented fish oil is called PCSO-524. The more specific fatty acids DHA and EPA are said to make up a lot of those fatty acids. These fatty acids are already well known for their anti-inflammation properties.
You have to keep in mind that Omega XL is nothing more than an enriched fish oil. While this may increase its effectiveness and it may work better than regular fish oil. At the end of the day, it’s just fish oil. Great HealthWork says that it has over 30 years of scientific research and over 30 different studies backing up their patented formula PCSO-524.

Omega XL Dosage
Taking Omega XL is considered to be very safe. For those that have trouble swallowing it’s nice to know that the capsules are small and made out of soft gel which is very easy to swallow. The recommended daily dose is two capsules. Though, according to the bottle, you can take up to six capsules daily if needed.
It is recommended that for better absorption of the omega-3 fatty acids. You should take Omega XL with a meal. It isn’t required but it will work better for you if you do. Great HealthWorks says that those with sensitive stomachs should also consider taking it with a meal.
Ingredients in Omega XL
Just like any other supplement out there. What’s inside the supplement can be a concern. Since Omega XL has a proprietary formula it’s unknown the exact ingredients that it consists of. All that is said on their website is that it contains 30 healthy fatty acids.
They also state they harvest their fish oil from the green-lipped mussel (Perna Canaliculus) off the coast of New Zealand. The inactive ingredients in Omega XL are natural monounsaturated olive oil, gelatin, and glycerine.
There are two main fatty acids that are essential to health. The widely recognized omega-3 is known to be the most beneficial for you. Omega-6 has been shown to actually increase inflammation.
Though, Omega-6 is an essential fatty acid that the body needs for normal brain function and overall health. Since omega-6 can cause an increase in inflammation some have concluded that omega-6 is an unhealthy fatty acid.
With that being said, it is unknown if the ingredients contain a low amount of omega-3 or a high amount. Omega-6 could be the main fatty acid too, though this is unlikely, it’s just something that we don’t clearly know.
There is another problem to consider and that’s the low dose of omega fatty acids found in Omega XL. According to the bottle, only 50mg is found in each soft gel. Americans average around 1.6 grams naturally each day from the food they consume.
According to the American Heart Association, it is recommended that you only consume 2 to 3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids each day. If you consume over 3 grams of fish oil a day you may want to consult your doctor about it. In healthy people taking more than 3 grams of fish oil a day usually isn’t a concern but for some individuals, it can cause excessive bleeding.
To get a better idea of the amount of omega-3 fatty acids Omega XL has. Let’s take a look at another fish oil supplement, Dr. Tobias Optimum Omega-3. Like Omega XL, Dr. Tobias’s fish oil supplement is very popular. There are other products like Arthro-7 and Instaflex that help ease joint pain like Omega XL does.
Dr. Tobias’s omega-3 supplement contains 1,000mg of fish oil per capsule. There is 300mg of DHA and 400 mg of EPA. That is a significantly higher amount than what Omega XL has. In each one of Omega XL’s capsules contains only 150mg of fish oil.
This is what separates Omega XL from other fish oils according to Great HealthWorks. Since they formulated the “perfect” amount of fatty acids so you don’t have to take as much as other fish oils to get the same benefit.
Omega XL Side Effects
Thinking about trying Omega XL and want to know if it has any side effects?
Well, since it is mostly made of omega-3 fatty acids. The side effects that it has are very similar to that of omega-3. In most instances, people experience ZERO SIDE EFFECTS while taking Omega XL. Everyone is different though and sometimes people can experience different side effects than other people. If someone does have any side effects they are usually mild.
Here are a few of the reported side effects:
- Upset Stomach – May cause bloating and gas. You may burp and have a fishy taste but this side effect is usually very mild.
- Allergic Reaction – Anyone that has a severe reaction to shellfish should probably stay away from all fish oil supplements as a precautionary measure.
- Excessive Bleeding – This is very rare and there have been studies that have said omega-3 (fish oil) supplements can cause excessive bleeding. And then there are studies that say that it can’t. You should know if you are at risk for excessive bleeding. The FDA says taking up to 3 grams of fish oil a day is safe.
Does Omega XL Cause Any Allergic Reactions?
If you have an allergy to shellfish, you might be wondering if Omega XL could trigger an allergic reaction. According to their website, it’s not possible for people to have an allergic reaction to Omega XL due to a shellfish allergy. The reason why they say this is because the proteins that would trigger an allergic reaction have been removed from it.
To be on the safe side, if you have any allergies to shellfish or anything else that happens to be in the ocean. You should probably talk with your doctor first before taking. If for some reason you develop a skin rash or other swelling stop taking immediately. Then go see a medical professional.
Where Can You Buy Omega XL?
Omega XL is an exclusive product that isn’t available everywhere. The only place that you can get it is online. This means you can’t buy Omega XL at big retailers such as Wal-Mart, GNC, Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid. You will not be able to find it locally.
There are only two ways that you can buy Omega XL. The first way is to order it directly from Great HealthWorks at OmegaXL.com. The other way is through Amazon.com where you can purchase one bottle (60 soft gel tabs) for around $70. If you are an Amazon Prime member you will get free shipping with your order.
There is one thing that I would like to caution you about when ordering directly from OmegaXL.com. While we don’t think Omega XL is a scam. Others have felt like they have been scammed by Omega XL. The reason for this is because they sell their product on the continuity billing model also known as auto-bill, re-bill, or auto ship.
While the billing practices that Omega XL uses are completely legal and ethical. Some people feel like they are charged for something they didn’t order. This is why you might hear Omega XL is a scam.
Here is an example of how Omega XL sells via their website. If you buy Omega XL from Amazon this won’t apply to you.
First, you go to OmegaXL.com, right off the bat you will see a “Special Introductory Offer”. They offer this promotion to entice you into buying. Those that are ordering for the first time can purchase Omega XL with a Buy 1, Get 1 Free offer.
If you go ahead and click on the order button. You are taken to the checkout page. Where they capture all of your shipping details and card information. This is all pretty standard stuff when buying online.
The introductory price is $49.95 for one bottle. But since you are eligible for the special offer you will get one bottle free. The price of 2 bottles of Omega XL is $49.95 plus there is a $9.95 shipping and handling charge. The total comes out to $59.90 for your first order.
Keep in mind that each bottle of Omega XL contains 60 pills. The daily dosage is two pills so one bottle will last you one month. This means the first order of two bottles will last you two months.
When placing your first order you have to agree to their terms and conditions. This gives them permission to auto ship their product to you every month. This is where customers feel like they have been scammed by Great HealthWorks. There are a lot of complaints all over the internet about this very thing.
The most common thing that happens to upset customers. Is that they have simply forgotten that they signed up to Omega XL. Then they start seeing charges month after month. They have no idea why they are being charged.
After your first order and before your first bottle is empty. They send out a new bottle and charge you $60.90 plus shipping and handling. The cost could very well be over $70 a month with shipping included. Monthly charges will continue as long as you are signed up with Omega XL.
The good news is that Omega XL is a good company. They are in no way a shady or a fly by night operation. Great HealthWorks has been in business for many years. They do offer a 90-day money back guarantee with their products.
This guarantee is very generous considering most money back guarantees are only 30 days. I would like to note that they don’t refund the shipping and handling charge. But will refund the full price of the bottles if you contact them within 90 days.
Who Should Take Omega XL?
It’s obvious that people experiencing joint and back pain due to inflammation would benefit the most by taking Omega XL. This makes sense because fish oil is very good at reducing inflammation. There are multiple published studies confirming the effectiveness it has on easing joint pain and other inflammatory conditions.
Like most people, as you age you might feel a little achy in the morning. A little back pain here or there. Not to mention joints that are painful to move. This is something that Omega XL may help you with.
Even if you don’t take Omega XL taking a fish oil supplement is a good idea. If you consume enough omega-3 fatty acids through the foods that you eat. Then maybe fish oil supplement won’t benefit you as much as someone who doesn’t.
Omega XL Reviews
There are a lot of mixed reviews for Omega XL. There are people that are extremely happy taking it. Those that have written positive reviews have claimed that their pain due to inflammation has completely vanished. And they can’t imagine not taking it anymore. While others are openly very negative about Omega XL. Mostly due to the fact that they think Omega XL is a scam.
The vast majority of negative reviews out there are from people that are unhappy about the monthly auto ship charges. Which is not surprising because people either forgot they signed up for the monthly auto ship or they were unaware that they agreed to be billed every month for a new bottle.
There are some negative reviewers that have commented about how Omega XL has helped them with joint and back pain. Though, they were extremely unhappy in how Great HealthWorks auto ships their product. It kind of left a sour taste in their mouth because they felt like there were being scammed.
Things You Should Keep in Mind About Omega XL
If you plan on buying Omega XL from their website. Keep in mind that you are subscribing to their monthly auto-ship service. Remember you will be charged every month for a new bottle.
You have 90 days from the time that you placed your initial order to ask for a refund. If for any reason you don’t like their product call them up. If you don’t like being enrolled in an auto ship program don’t buy Omega XL from their website.
Instead, you can buy Omega XL from Amazon. On Amazon, you have two options in how you can purchase Omega XL. You can buy one bottle at a time which is about $70. If you order it this way you will not have any automatic monthly charges.
Alternatively, you can order Omega XL on Amazon by using “Subscribe & Save” which will save you about 5% per order. By doing it this way you will be subscribed to a monthly subscription. The good news is that it is very easy to cancel via Amazon at any time.
From what we can tell the best way to try Omega XL is to take them up on their Buy 1, Get 1 free offer. That way you can get two bottles for under $60. Getting Omega XL for $30 a bottle is a steal. If you don’t want to have reoccurring monthly charges. It’s important that you cancel their auto ship program. If you don’t do this they will charge you for the next month’s order.
Buried in their terms and conditions it states that you MUST contact them 10 days prior to the next billing cycle. What this means is that after your first order you have 20 days to cancel to avoid being charged for the following month’s shipment. To be on the safe side, you should cancel as soon as possible if you don’t want to be on their auto ship program.
After you have used Omega XL for a while and are satisfied with the results. You can order on Amazon and buy one bottle at a time if you like. Or if you want to get it monthly. You can always use Amazon’s subscribe & save service.
